Vancouver Bohras Meet High Commissioner of India

Most members of the Dawoodi Bohra faith live in Mumbai, India and many of the Bohra families that reside in Vancouver are of Indian descent, and so maintaining connections with the country remains important.

Mr. Ahmed Medina, a representative of the Dawoodi Bohra community of Vancouver, joined community leaders across Canada last month to participate in a virtual meeting with the High Commissioner of India, His Excellency Shri Ajay Bisaria, who is based in Ottawa.

The High Commissioner provided an update on the COVID-19 situation in India, explained the history and significance of the International Day of Yoga, and invited suggestions from the Indian diaspora on ways to celebrate the upcoming 75th birthday of India.

Mr. Medina introduced the Dawoodi Bohra community by highlighting the various activities they have undertaken as part of the Bohras’ global Project Rise initiative to help protect the environment and eliminate hunger in Vancouver.

On behalf of the Dawoodi Bohras, Mr. Medina thanked the Government of India for providing Canada with much needed vaccines, and expressed solidarity with India in her efforts against COVID-19.   High Commissioner Shri Bisaria showed great interest in the activities of Dawoodi Bohras and thanked the community for their support.
