Vancouver

The breathtakingly beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia, is home to more than 200 members of the Dawoodi Bohra community. Some of these members have lived in Vancouver for more than 45 years.

“While many of us come from different backgrounds, religions, and even native countries, we stand together today as Canadians, united in accepting this nation as our own, and celebrating our Nation as one.”

Mr. Doug McCallum, Mayor – City of Surrey, BC, Canada,

Street Clean-up in Mission, BC – 2020

In 2020, the Dawoodi Bohra community of Greater Vancouver twice organized street clean-up activities in Mission – on March 1st, and then again on October 25th – in collaboration with the Mission Environmental Stewardship Society led by Michele Chapman. 22 to 26 Dawoodi Bohra community volunteers participated in both events, collecting approximately 1000 lbs of paper, plastic, and scrap steel trash to help maintain the picturesque beauty of areas around Lane Creek, Harbour Avenue, and Glasgow Avenue close to Downtown Mission.

The Dawoodi Bohras of Greater Vancouver are inspired by Project Rise, a global initiative by Dawoodi Bohras around the world to strive towards overall upliftment of humanity and the preservation of our planet.

Food Distribution Drive

During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which in 2020 occurred during the months of April-May, volunteers from the Dawoodi Bohra community of Greater Vancouver partnered with Saba Foods, a Yemeni restaurant in Surrey to provide 26 servings of hot meals to the needy.

In addition, 30-40 kgs of grocery items were also distributed to each of the 72 families within the Bohra community.

On a twice-weekly basis, hot meals are regularly distributed by Dawoodi Bohra volunteers under the umbrella of Faizul-Mawaid-Burhaniyah, a global philanthropic initiative set up under the guidance and direction of His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin.

Canada Day 2020 Celebration

Members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Greater Vancouver joined their brethren from Toronto, Mississauga, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Montreal in a virtual setting, in a socially distanced arrangement, to celebrate Canada Day on July 1st.

Doug McCallum – Mayor of Surrey, and Jagmeet Singh – leader of the Federal NDP, sent in their greetings and well-wishes to the Dawoodi Bohra community. This was yet another demonstration of the Dawoodi Bohras’ commitment towards loyalty and pride for their adopted homeland.
